Efter at Steven Wilson havde bevæget Procupine Tree fra Psycodelisk Rock over en mere melodisk progressiv side er dette syvende album præget af en hårdere Progressiv Metal stil. Blandt andet inspireret af et begyndende samrbejde med Opeth’s Mikael Åkerfeldt, idet Wilson skulle producere deres næste album Blackwater Park. Chris Maitland blev erstattet af Gavin Harrison der understøttede den nye, hårdere stil og “In Absentia byder derfor på en forfriskende ny udgave af bandet. Pladen er remasteret med mere åben lyd, bedre dynamik og flere detaljer i forhold til de originale udgaver. Et must for PT fans.
